WHITE-WILSON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION CALLS FOR WOMEN'S HEALTH GRANT APPLICATIONS

June 12, 2017

The White-Wilson Community Foundation is currently accepting grant applications for organizations working to impact women's health in Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton Counties. Grant applications are available on the nonprofit's website, http://whitewilsoncommunityfoundation.org/how_help_you.html. Interested organizations should submit their grant application and support materials no later than midnight on July 31, 2017.

LOCAL CHILDREN RECEIVE LIFE-CHANGING VISION AIDS

February 16, 2017
On Friday, February 10, seven local children with severe visual impairments received Electronic Video Magnifiers (EVMs) funded by the White-Wilson Community Foundation, in collaboration with Sight Savers America. Each recipient has visual impairments that cannot be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, medical or surgical treatment. The high-tech, equipment was provided to these families at no cost and opens up a whole to world to these deserving children.

Through the success of the organization's annual Little Black Dress Party, the group will award grants to impact the health of women residing in Okaloosa, Walton or Santa Rosa Counties.

LOCAL STITCHERS SUPPORT WOMEN'S HEALTH

November 9, 2015
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Stitcher's Quest of Fort Walton Beach raised funds to support local women. The sewing store sold raffle tickets to support the White-Wilson Community Foundation women's health initiative. One lucky winner went home with a special edition pink Bernina sewing machine and $435 was raised. The donation will help provide breast cancer screenings and treatment for local women in need.

WHITE-WILSON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS OVER $6,000 TO THE MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION FOR EMERGENCY MEDICATIONS

October 15, 2015
The White-Wilson Community Foundation (WWCF) awarded $6,208 to the Mental Health Association of Walton and Okaloosa Counties. The grant will help provide emergency mental health medications and evaluations for local women in need.

"The need for mental health services in our community is great and the White-Wilson Community Foundation came to the aid of women in Okaloosa and Walton Counties," said Executive Director Virginia Glynn Barr. "We can't advance mental health without partnerships like this one."

SIX LOCAL CHILDREN RECEIVE LIFE-CHANGING VISION EQUIPMENT

On Monday, local families gathered at White-Wilson Medical Center for the I Can See Now vision clinic. The clinic provided six local children with life-changing vision equipment. Each child suffers from conditions that greatly diminish their vision. With the help of Electronic Video Magnifiers (EVM), these children can now see things they have never been able to see before.

The White-Wilson Community Foundation (WWCF) hosted the Little Black Dress Party 5th Anniversary Black and White Gala on May 17th. More than 400 party-goers toasted the night with Michelle Anchors, the event's honorary chair, enjoyed sweet treats from Bonne Vie Specialty Foods, bid on silent and live auctions items, were mesmerized by aerialists performing from Aerial Events and danced the night away. The sold-out event raised over $40,000 for women in need of health care in Okaloosa County and the surrounding areas.

The White-Wilson Community Foundation's Run for the Health of It 5K & 8K Run/Walk was a huge success. Drawing over 140 participants, the 5K & 8K Run/Walk raised more than $4,000 for foundation programs. White-Wilson Medical Center served as the title sponsor and dozens of WWMC employees and their families joined in the festivities. Breast cancer affects one in eight women in the US each year, and mammography is the most effective way to find this cancer in its earliest most treatable stages. Unfortunately finances keep many women from receiving this annual exam, and finding breast cancer early. Although mammograms are covered by health insurance, nearly 30,000 women in Okaloosa, Walton and Santa Rosa Counties between the ages of 18 and 65 are uninsured.

4TH ANNUAL LITTLE BLACK DRESS PARTY ACCRUES HEFTY AUCTION ITEMS

The newly formed White-Wilson Community Foundation continues to rack in auction donations for the 4th Annual Little Black Dress Party women's health fundraiser on May 18, 2013, at the Emerald Coast Convention Center. The local chapter of the American Cancer Society, one of five benefiting organizations from the event, contributed a 1 1/2 carat white gold diamond ring engagement set and two round trip airline tickets aboard Southwest Airlines. Additionally, renown artist Justin Gaffrey will be producing art on site that will be auctioned off in the live auction.
